چکیده
Received XXX A Large Ion Collider Experiment (ALICE) is the only experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) dedicated to the study of heavy ion collisions. The Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is the main tracking detector covering the pseudo rapidity range |η| < 0.9. It is designed for a maximum multiplicity dN/dy= 8000. The aim of the laser system is to simulate ionizing tracks at predifined positions throughout the drift volume in order to monitor the TPC response to a known source. In particular, the alignment of the read-out chambers will be performed, and variations of the drift velocity due to drift field imperfections can be measured and used as calibration data in the physics data analysis. In this paper we present the design of the pulsed UV laser and optical system, together with the control and monitoring systems. Fig. 1. The TPC laser principle. A 25 mm wide and 5 ns long pulse hits an adjustable mirror and is guided inside the TPC. The beam is splitted into 1 mm-wide rays in a rod to simulate ionizing particle tracks. The ALICE experiment will study heavy ion collisions at LHC. The main tracking detector of the ALICE experiment is the TPC[1]. The aim of the laser system is

Two cylindrical forward TPC detectors are described which were constructed to extend the phase space coverage of the STAR experiment to the region 2.5 < |η| < 4.0. For optimal use of the available space and in order to cope with the high track density of central Au+Au collisions at RHIC, a novel design was developed using radial drift in a low diffusion gas. From prototype measurements a 2-trac...

We review to what extent charge independence breaking (CIB) in isospin related reactions of the type NN → dπ can or could be seen in existing data. In doing this we present fits to global and threshold cross sections including most recent data. Applying these we point out the probable impossibility to make model independent predictions even based solely on the different threshold energies and t...
